Conversation is just like a tennis game, except that no one is trying to win. The point is that it takes two people to keep the ball in motion. You hit; I hit. I serve; you receive. The whole idea is to keep that ball moving. Different shots, styles and angles.
Here are six simple things to teach our kids about face to face conversation. Plus, they're good reminders for us!

Today, you're working to coordinate lessons, manage the household and see that your children are properly fed, taught and nurtured. You've got a lot going on!
In the summer of 2009 my youngest son, John expressed an interest in participating as an extra in Advent Film Group’s second full-length film project, HERO, a father/son reconciliation story centered around a little league baseball team. AFG’s vision to train up the next generation of young Christian film makers so resonated with my heart and that of my late husband, Chris, that we both prayerfully agreed that John should audition for the film, and we trusted God for whatever outcome He had ordained.
You sit. You take a deep breath and wonder, "What will my child be when he or she grows up?"

This story happened on an ordinary spring day during our second year of homeschooling. The only thing I changed is the name -- the name of the man who came knocking at our door...
Here's another idea for Valentine's Day: A special breakfast for your husband....
I remembered that my neighbor up the street had a son in ice hockey, and had mentioned that she would like to get rid of some of his old skates. I knocked on her door and told her my request. She rummaged through the hall closet and pulled out a pair of well-worn skates that would likely fit an eight-year-old. Thanking her, I hurried home, but didn't tell the twins about the skates. That afternoon, I found another pair on sale for a great price.
...Inside, along with other items, was a magnificent (NASA) picture taken of the earth as the astronauts came from behind the Moon during the Apollo 8 mission of 1968. It's not the picture above, but is similar. We hung it in the homeschool room and I still love to look at it.
