The Accessibility Summit

Krisa Winn

I’m excited to tell you about an upcoming conference being held in the Washington D.C. area on April 19th-20th, 2013.  The 13th annual, ACCESSIBILITY SUMMIT is a conference designed for families/caregivers, churches, teachers, and other professionals connected to the special needs community.

This is a very organized and informative conference.  I attended last year, and came away with resources and knowledge that I have referred to throughout the year.   I am really looking forward to hearing this year’s keynote speakers.  They are~

Emily Colson, daughter of the late Chuck Colson and mother to Max, a young man who has autism.   The book she and her father co-wrote, Dancing with Max, was recently named “book of the year” by the Autism Society of America.

Clay Dyer, a professional bass fisherman who was born without legs and only part of his right arm!  He will be sharing his remarkable story of overcoming adversity, staying positive, and encouraging others.

Joe and Cyndi Ferrini, this inspirational couple have three children, one who has significant special needs.  Their latest book, No Regrets is slated for release on March 1st, 2013.  They have been interviewed on many national platforms.

In addition to a variety of exhibitors, (the 2012 Accessibility Summit was where we had the privilege of meeting Krista Horning, author of Just the Way I Am.  Click here to hear her incredible testimony.) there are three tracks of workshops from which to choose- Family and Caregiver, Church, and Community and Professionals.  This year, our special needs department will be presenting a workshop on homeschooling children with special needs.

We highly recommend this conference, especially if you live in the DC area.  For more information, visit the ACCESSIBILITY SUMMIT website .
