This bill would create the South Carolina Child Development Education Program. This would be a full-day, 4-year-old kindergarten program for at-risk children. It would also include parenting education for parents to learn how to prepare their children for school. While this would begin as a voluntary program, such programs often become mandatory at a later time. The cost to taxpayers per child would be $4,218, increased annually by inflation.
HSLDA opposes any expansion of the state in the education of children. This bill should be opposed.
