Summary:

Legislative Bill 528 establishes a "Promise" grant to help students pay for post-secondary education. The act excludes homeschool students by specifically restricting eligibility to students who have graduated from District public schools or public charter schools. DCHEA is actively working with the council and having some success to include homeschoolers in the definition.

HSLDA's Position:
Support.

HSLDA supports the inclusion of homeschool students in post-secondary scholarship programs. If this bill is amended to include homeschoolers without discriminating, HSLDA will support the bill. DCHEA reports to HSLDA that the bill contains language that will allow homeschoolers to participate in this program. Therefore HSLDA supports the bill.
