Legislative Bill 380: Same-Sex Adoptions

Legislative Bill 380 would permit two adults to adopt a minor child “regardless of their marital status.” Although the statute does not specifically reference adoption by same-sex couples, the bill does remove all references to “husband” and “wife” from the adoption statute, and replaces them with the generic term “adult person.” The practical effect of this bill will be to legalize adoption by same-sex couples.
