House Joint Resolution 77 would repeal the traditional marriage amendment in Texas that defines marriage between one man and one woman. The bill would prohibit Texas from "creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage," presumably civil unions. If passed the amendment would be presented to voters on the November 5 ballot.
