House Bill 890: Deletes Option for Parents to Withdraw Their 5-Year-Old Children from Kindergarten

As amended in the Senate Education Committee, this bill, among other things, would delete the provision of the compulsory attendance law that permits a parent to withdraw a 5-year-old child from public school kindergarten.
HSLDA's Position:
Parents, not state officials, are best able to determine when a child is ready for formal education. This bill should be opposed.
