House Bill 546: Creates "Equal Opportunities Act"
Sponsors:
Representatives Henry, Collins, Wallace, Fincher, Weaver, and Harper
Summary:

This is a companion bill to Senate Bill 420. The amended version of this bill deletes and changes objectionable language that appeared in the original bill. It recognizes that nonpublic schools, including church schools, may have both on-site and home programs. These schools will be required to notify the State Superintendent of their existence each year, but the state will have no authority to regulate or license these schools. It would eliminate discrimination against nonpublic school graduates in college admission and admission to the Alabama Fire College or any Police Academy.
