House Bill 3339: Lowers Compulsory School Attendance Age
Sponsors:
Representative Ashe
Summary:

House Bill 3339 would lower the compulsory school attendance age to 5 years old.

HSLDA's Position:
Oppose.
Action Requested:
None at this time
Status:
1/22/2013 (House) Introduced and Referred to Education Committee
3/18/2014 (House) Accompanied Study Order
Background:

HSLDA opposes expanding compulsory school attendance ages because doing so infringes upon parents’ freedom to make educational decisions for their children. Another significant impact of expanding the compulsory attendance age is an inevitable tax burden to pay for more classroom space and teachers to accommodate the additional students compelled to attend public schools.
