House Bill 3024: Makes All Persons Mandatory Abuse Reporters
Sponsors:
Representative Peter McCoy, Jr.Summary:
This bill would make all persons, regardless of age, mandatory reporters of child abuse or neglect.
HSLDA's Position:
This bill is well-intended, but it is much too broad. Young children should not be responsible for making a determination of whether abuse or neglect has occurred and then reporting it to authorities. Any expansion of the reporting requirements should be limited to persons who are adults. This bill should be opposed in its current form.
Action Requested:
None at this time Status:
Referred to committee. Favorably reported out of committee as amended. See "Bill History" link below.
