This bill would raise the compulsory attendance age from 17 to 18 and until the end of the school year in which the child turns 18 unless the child has graduated from high school. Students 17 or 18 would be permitted to withdraw from school with a parent's consent and after an "exit interview" conducted by a school official with the parent and child. Students in a home instruction program apparently would not be afforded the opportunity to withdraw, since they are not enrolled in public school.
HSLDA opposes any expansion of state control over education and such discrimination against homeschoolers.
