Andrew Pudewa
Andrew Pudewa is the director of the Institute for Excellence in Writing and a homeschooling father of seven. Presenting throughout North America, he addresses issues relating to teaching, writing, thinking, spelling, and music with clarity and insight, practical experience and humor. His seminars for parents, students, and teachers have helped transform many a reluctant writer and have equipped educators with powerful tools to dramatically improve students’ skills.
Although he is a graduate of the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan, and holds a Certificate of Child Brain Development from the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his best endorsement is from a young Alaskan boy who called him “the funny man with the wonderful words.” He and his beautiful, heroic wife Robin currently teach their three youngest children at their new home in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
Andrew was awarded The Old Schoolhouse magazine “Homeschool Speaker of the Year” award for 2006 and 2007.
“Thank you for having Andrew Pudewa! It was enlightening and very informative. I have always helped my children to the point where I felt it was too much, and am thankful to know that that is not possible! Bravo!”— Gwendolyn, VA

5/18/2010 (10:15 PM EST): The Four Deadly Errors of Teaching Writing
We've all suffered it at one time or another: frustration about writing assignments. Either on the receiving end, or perhaps now on the giving end, there can be a few distinctly discouraging aspects to teaching and being taught writing. The tough questions include: What to correct and how to give a grade? How much help is too much? Isn't the assignment clear enough? Why don't students find their own errors? Learn and avoid four teaching mistakes that contribute to this frustration: Overcorrecting, Holding Back Help, Unclear Assignments, & Over Expectation.

6/15/2010 (10:30 PM EST): Mastery Learning: How to Bring Out Your Child’s Best
Do you struggle with finding the most effective methods to help your children learn? Are you searching for the optimal way to nurture each child’s talents and abilities? Have you heard the terms “mastery learning” and “ability development” but are unsure what they are or how to apply them to your homeschool education? Join us to find the answers! Author, teacher, and homeschooling father Andrew Pudewa shares the answers to these questions along with insight on how to create an effective learning environment for individualized education. Speaking from his experience as a student under the well known violinist and music teacher Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, Andrew explains how you can apply Suzuki’s ability development model to your family’s educational disciplines to achieve success. Even if your children have struggled in the past, you can initiate a turnaround and draw out the best in each child!

10/5/2010 (9PM EST): Spelling and the Brain
Many children (and some adults) have trouble learning to spell, but the difficulty may not be with the student so much as the method of presentation. How do you help your children embrace this vital skill instead of running away from it? In this @home e-vent, Andrew Pudewa will address the most efficient way to store spelling information in the brain, while sharing specific steps and tips to succeed in teaching spelling to your students. Leave this e-vent with a greater insight into the nature of spelling and neurological function and be well-equipped to meet the needs of all your children, not just the “naturally” good spellers.
