This is the first @home e vent I have ever participated in and I thought it was very informative and to be able to ask questions as the topics were discussed was extremely helpful.—Suzanne, MA

They’ve been in your shoes and want to come alongside you in your journey to enhance your family’s homeschooling experience! Our speakers possess the breadth of experience, talent, and enthusiasm suited for encouraging you and equipping you with relevant tools.
Past e•vents have included presentations by well-known authors and speakers, such as Andrew Pudewa, Lou Priolo, Dr. Jay Wile, Jeff Myers, and Hal and Melanie Young, as well as experienced homeschooling parents and homeschool graduates. HSLDA staff speakers have included President J. Michael Smith, Chairman Michael P. Farris, many other attorneys, and some of our Special Needs, High School, and Early Years coordinators, such as Dianne Craft, Vicki Bentley, Becky Cooke, and Diane Kummer.
Hal and Melanie Young
Fresh from a state tax audit to prove that yes, they’re all ours, Hal and Melanie Young, authors of Raising Real Men, are parents of six real boys and two real girls. They have homeschooled through seven high-risk pregnancies, three re-locations, two decades, and 181 degrees of longitude. Hal and Melanie have published articles with Homeschooling Today, Homeschool Digest, TEACH Magazine, the N.C. Family Policy Council, the John Locke Foundation, and the Heartland Institute and have spoken at homeschool conferences from North Carolina to Arizona. The Youngs live in noisy familial bliss in North Carolina.

4/6/2010 (10:30 PM EST): Raising Real Men
In a culture that is intent on bending the definitions of male and female, it is crucial that Christian fathers and mothers make an intentional and counter-cultural move to raise real men to serve God, family, and country in the challenging years ahead. Hal and Melanie explain both the threat to our boys’ masculine identity and the Biblical way out — and the opportunity that gives us to train real leaders for the next generation.

5/13/2010 (10:30 PM EST): Ballistic Homeschooling: Teaching and Appreciating Boys
Have you ever had a war break out in the middle of history or had a math lesson last three hours? Homeschooling boys can be a huge challenge for those of us raised in our feminized schools. Come hear from a mother that has taught six boys at one time from Kindergarten to 12th grade share how to turn wiggle worms into scholars and boys into real men!

12/1/2011 (7:54 PM EST): Shining Armor: Your Son's Battle for Purity
Most purity resources these days focus on girls, but purity tends to be a much bigger problem for young men. Available resources often seem hopelessly naïve about the battles our sons are facing. How can you teach your boys to honor the girls in their lives? How can you help them to fight temptation in a world full of inappropriate images? Is there a way to harness the power of the Internet for God's glory but still protect your children's innocence? How can you help them make the transition from "It's not time to think about that..." to finding a wife? Hal and Melanie Young have six sons and offer frank, practical advice on how you can raise your son to be a virtuous knight!
