Have any of your children demonstrated a tendency toward anger or a bad temper? If so, this session is absolutely essential for you. Anger is a God-given emotion and did not come about as a result of the Fall. However, the Bible says, “Be angry, and sin not.” This talk addresses anger from a biblical perspective, focusing on the positive and negative aspects of anger. Michael Smith also delineates the five steps that lead to rebellion, then suggests ways to help your child identify the causes of anger and take the necessary steps toward freedom from anger.

What do I do when a social worker knocks on my door and asks to interview my children? Can I refuse him entry? What if the visitor is a police officer – does she have a right to come into my home? Does homeschooling make me more vulnerable in a social services investigation? What evidence do I have to provide to prove I am educating my children? How does the Fourth Amendment apply?

In his presentation, Michael Smith, President of HSLDA, will answer these questions and more. Since 1981, when he and his wife began homeschooling their children, Mike has counseled thousands of homeschooling families in various legal situations, including social services investigations. Although the odds are that your family never will be the subject of an abuse or neglect investigation, this webinar will ensure that you are well prepared to handle that surprise knock on the door, when you open it to find someone saying, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to protect your children.”

What’s the number one reason parents do not homeschool? Fear of failure. Perhaps you have personally struggled with this fear in the midst of your own homeschooling journey. So how can parents measure and achieve homeschool success? Thankfully, the Bible gives clear and decisive direction in this area, providing encouragement for even the most difficult situations. In this session, HSLDA President Mike Smith shares these encouraging insights and helps parents measure their homeschooling success by scriptural standards.

In these difficult times—with the economy in recession and unemployment rates and inflation on the rise—just providing basic necessities has become increasingly challenging for many families.

If, like a majority of homeschooling families, your household relies on a single income, you may be especially hard hit by the economic downturn. When the primary wage earner loses his or her job or faces under-employment, families need to find new ways to balance earning enough to support themselves with still providing the best education possible for their children.

Join HSLDA President Mike Smith for “How Can I Afford to Keep Homeschooling with a Reduced Family Income?” and learn real-life strategies for meeting your income needs and the legal implications of a double-income household for your homeschool program, along with practical suggestions to help your family continue homeschooling through these hard times.

We understand the financial constraints that your family must consider, and that those who need the information in this e-vent the most may be able to least afford it. To that end, this e-vent will be offered at a special reduced rate (below our cost) to make this encouragement and information available to as many families as possible.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Although they may not realize it, parents often inflict deep scars on their children, not only by using negative, condemning words, but by withholding praise and affirmation. HSLDA President Mike Smith wants to help you overcome poor communication habits so that your children can experience your words as a blessing, not rejection. Using James 3:1–10 as a model, Mike will explain how we can use words to edify and build each other up, rather than having them hurt and tear others down. Join us to discover how to use your tongue as an instrument of blessing and develop a positive relationship with your child that lasts for the rest of your lives!
