E-vent Library

HSLDA's @home e-vent library is a collection of the recordings of all past live e-vents. We post recordings online a few business days after an e-vent goes live to allow you to listen to any previous e-vent at your convenience. To purchase a recording, simply click “Add To Cart” and proceed to the “Shopping Cart.” Access your recording under the “Purchase History” tab and watch as many times as you like for a period of 30 days! You will be able to pause, rewind, and fast-forward at your convenience.

After counseling thousands of homeschool families for the past 23 years, Chris Klicka, homeschool father of 7 children, gives down-to-earth encouragement to stay the course. He provides solutions to common problems like: 1) Your children want to play sports, 2) Your children are teenagers, 3) You are burned out, 4) You can’t financially afford it, 5) You can’t teach trigonometry, 6) Your children are not disciplined, 7) You can receive free education through the public schools, 8) A parent has health problems, 9) Your child has special needs, and 10) Your husband is not very supportive. After Chris addresses these issues, you will walk away from this session renewed and refreshed.

Dr. Robert Epstein’s research shows that many serious problems in American teens are due in large part to isolation from responsible adults. Public schools not only isolate teens from their families and the benefits of work, but they also trap teens with peers during most of their waking hours.

In this webinar, Dr. Epstein will discuss these issues, with special focus on the myth that schooling is important for "socialization."

"Peers are the last people on earth from whom teens should be learning," says Dr. Epstein. "Socialization needs to occur with people of all ages, and especially with responsible adults, and the kind of socialization that occurs in our schools, especially our middle and high schools, is often bizarre, driven mainly by the media and fashion industries."

Every homeschooler knows the question, “But what about socialization?” Every homeschooler knows the answer, too: “No problem here!” But critics demand proof. Today, the first generation of homeschoolers has grown up, and there are now enough graduates that we can begin to evaluate how they are doing in real life. In 2003, HSLDA commissioned Dr. Brian Ray to conduct the world’s largest survey of adults who were taught at home. This workshop discusses the encouraging results of this research.
