Legal Assistant
The Home School Legal Defense Association has an opening for a legal assistant to work with member families in 11 different states in defending their right to educate their children at home.
The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills, a strong work ethic, a professional and compassionate phone manner, a servant-oriented attitude and a passion for homeschooling. The candidate must be able to diligently and independently manage multiple tasks in what can be a fast-paced position. The position offers a starting salary commensurate with experience and a generous benefits package in a caring and faith-oriented environment. A two-year job commitment will be requested.
Candidates should have at least one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One year or more of law school
- Paralegal or legal assistant training or experience
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Assisting HSLDA Staff Attorney Thomas (Tj) Schmidt in answering inquiries regarding homeschooling and related issues;
- Researching and writing on legal and legislative issues;
- Monitoring legislation that affects homeschooling;
- Performing general assistant duties including letters, filing, etc; and
- The opportunity to represent HSLDA at homeschool conventions around the country.
HSLDA’s national office is located in Purcellville, Virginia, in central Loudoun County on the campus of Patrick Henry College. Only an hour west of Washington, D.C., Purcellville provides a convenient access point to the D.C. Metro area, northern Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia.
