Senate File 109: Increases Penalty for Truancy

Summary:
SF 109 would change the penalties for truancy. It would raise the maximum fine for truancy from twenty-five dollars to one thousand dollars. Although not directly affecting homeschooling, this bill could nonetheless have a negative impact, in light of SF110.
Status:
This bill was introduced to the Senate on January 22, 2003, and assigned to the Senate Education Committee. On January 27, 2003, the Education Committee voted it down 4-1. Thankfully, Senator Sessions was the only member on the committee who saw merit in her bill. The bill is dead.
