Senate File 109: Increases Penalty for Truancy
Senator Kathryn Sessions (D)
SF 109 would change the penalties for truancy. It would raise the maximum fine for truancy from twenty-five dollars to one thousand dollars. Although not directly affecting homeschooling, this bill could nonetheless have a negative impact, in light of SF110.
This bill was introduced to the Senate on January 22, 2003, and assigned to the Senate Education Committee. On January 27, 2003, the Education Committee voted it down 4-1. Thankfully, Senator Sessions was the only member on the committee who saw merit in her bill. The bill is dead.
