Senate Bill 144: College Scholarships for Homeschoolers
Senator Randy McNally (R-5th District)
This bill would create college scholarships from lottery money. Homeschool students would be included in the program but would have to wait until completion of the freshman year of college before receiving the funds retroactively. Other students would receive the scholarship funds at the beginning of their freshman year. This is a companion bill to HB 475.
This bill was filed on February 3, 2003, and placed in the Senate Education Committee.
HSLDA opposes the creation of lotteries and also opposes any scholarship legislation which discriminates against homeschool graduates. This bill is unacceptable in its present form.
