Senate Bill 254: An Act to Tie Driver’s Licenses to School Attendance

Authors:
Senator L. Martin

Summary:
This bill would require that the issuance of any type of driver’s license to a person under 18 be conditional on school attendance, a high school diploma, or a GED. Homeschool associations would have to notify families and the Department of Motor Vehicles of excessive unexcused absences, resulting in the suspension of the student’s driver’s license. HSLDA opposes any legislation which ties school attendance to having a driver’s license.

Status:
1/13/2009(Senate) Introduced and read first time
1/13/2009(Senate) Referred to Committee on Transportation

HSLDA’s Position:
This legislation should be opposed.

Action Requested:
None at this time.
