Senate Bill 1161: Kindergarten for 4-Year-Old Children
Author:
Senators Lourie, Leventis, Reese, Sheheen, Setzler, Malloy, Patterson, Anderson, Ford and Elliott
Summary:
This bill would have created voluntary kindergarten programs for 4-year-old children. While attendance would be voluntary at this point, the next probable step by the legislature would be to make it mandatory. Creating these programs would also be a tremendous expense to South Carolina taxpayers. HSLDA opposed this bill.

| 6/15/2006 | Bill died when the Legislature adjourned. |
