House Bill 7367: An Act Relating to Education - Attendence - Residency
Author:
Representatives Amaral, Savage, McNamara, Lewiss, Picard
Summary:
This bill would amend the compulsory attendance and residency requirements for students in all Rhode Island schools, including homeschooled students. As originally introduced, it would require homeschoolers to register with the public schools under certain circumstances, by creating a legal duty to register with the public schools that is independent of the duty to attend public schools. However, the sponsor has agreed to amend the bill to remove the objectionable portions, and thereby avoid placing this additional regulation on homeschooling families.
