Bill O.A.C. 3301-35-08: Five-year Review of Non-Chartered Non-Tax Supported School Regulation

Summary:
As part of its regulation review process, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) has initiated a formal review process of rules governing non-chartered non-tax supported schools also known as -08 schools (named after the governing regulation 3301-35-08). Previously the ODE has recommended no change to the rules in its report to the Ohio State Board of Education.

Status:
After the legislatively mandated 5 year review of the regulations governing non-chartered, non-tax supported schools, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) has told HSLDA that it will not recommend any changes to the regulation and that therefore the State Board will not be making any changes.

HSLDA's Position:
HSLDA believes that parents should have as many options as possible for educating their children and complying with compulsory attendance laws. Because the practice has been used by many Ohio parents for decades, we believe that the practice should be maintained. These rules do not need to be, nor should they be, altered.

Action Requested:
No action is necessary at this time.
