SB 118: Deadline for Submitting Notice of Intent
Senator Michael Shoemaker
This bill would require parents to submit their notice of intent to provide home instruction by October 15 or by January 15, depending on what semester they are beginning in.
SB 118 was heard in the Senate Education Committee on June 12, 2001, and has gone nowhere since that time.
None at this time.
Parents are in the best position to determine what education their children need at a particular time. Therefore, they should be free to begin home schooling at any time during the school year. SB 118 could prevent a family who decides to begin home schooling at the end of January from doing so until the next school year. Therefore, we believe this bill should be strongly opposed.
