House Bill 553: School dropout drivers license suspensions

Sponsor:
Representative Larry A. Larranaga (R-27)

Summary:
This bill would require homeschoolers to prove that they are homeschooling in order to get a driver's license.

Status:
02/04/2004 (9)NOT PRINTED-HOUSE RULES

Action Requested:
None at this time.

HSLDA's Position:
Oppose. Our experience with other states with similar laws reveals that bureaucracies tend to be very reluctant to give homeschoolers a driver's license unless public school officials give their written permission. Even where the law is completely clear and the proper paperwork is readily available, some officials still withhold licenses.
