Senate Bill 97: Income Tax Deduction For Homeschools

Sponsor:
Senator Steve Komadina (R), District 9

Summary:
Senate Bill 97 would allow parents of students enrolled in a homeschool the entire school year to claim a $3,500 deduction from their net income for each homeschooled student. Parents of students who were homeschooled for at least six months but not the entire school year may claim half of the deduction ($1,750).

Status:
HB 868 was introduced to the Senate on January 21. On January 23, it was assigned to the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. Since the Legislature adjourned on March 22, 2003 with no carryover, the bill is dead.
Action Requested:
None.

HSLDA's Position:
Support. HSLDA supports any well-designed bill that will end "double taxation" for homeschoolers.
