House Bill 367: Relative to the Evaluation Procedure for Home Schooled Students Resource: 11 Reasons to oppose H.B. 367 & 368 >>Sponsors: Summary: First, the bill requires a credentialed educator to review the portfolio of records for each student every year, and then submit a report of this review to the superintendent or nonpublic school principal. Second, the bill requires that the results of a standardized test, administered by a credential educator, also be submitted to the superintendent or nonpublic school principal for review. The bill specifically states that, “The evaluation shall not be administered or monitored by a parent.” Third, the bill allows the superintendent or nonpublic school principal to use his or her judgment in determining whether the student made satisfactory academic growth over the course of the year. If the student does not, in the superintendent or nonpublic school principal’s opinion, make satisfactory progress, then the parents of the student must meet with the superintendent or nonpublic school principal to determine a remediation plan. If after one year the superintendent or nonpublic school principal decides that the student is still not making adequate progress he may decide to terminate the homeschool program. Status:
