Senate Bill 703: An Act Regarding Tax Credits for Non-Public Schools

Authors:
Senators W. Edward Goodall, Tom Apodaca, Philip E. Berger, Andrew C. Brock, James Forrester, Jim Jacumin, Robert Pittenger

Summary:
This bill would provide a tax credit of $1,250 per semester for each child in a nonpublic school or a credit not to exceed the tuition expenses at a public school. This bill would also authorize counties to appropriate $500 per child per year to families whose children are in nonpublic schools. This appropriation of state funds would inevitably lead to more state control over the nonpublic schools.

This bill could be supported if the county appropriations provisions were deleted.

Status:

3/14/2007 First reading and referred to the Committee on Finance

HSLDA's Position:

Action Requested:
