House Bill 430: An Act Regarding Tax Credits for Charter and Non-Public Schools

Authors:
Representatives Curtis Blackwood, Ric Killian, and Jim Gulley

Summary:
This bill would create a tax credit for students in a charter school or nonpublic school, including homeschools. The tax credit for homeschoolers would be $200 per month per child. This bill would also count nonpublic school students as part of the average daily membership for public schools and entitle the public schools to count nonpublic school students for funding on a 25% basis. There is no reason for public schools to receive funding for students who don’t attend the school.

This bill could be supported if the public school funding provisions were deleted.
