Senate Bill 2354: An Act to Mandate State Curriculum

Author:
Senator Billy Hewes

Summary:
This bill would require all high school students, apparently including homeschool students, to be taught the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, the Federalist Papers, and the Emancipation Proclamation of 1862. The State Department of Education would prescribe the curriculum content for each subject. While most homeschoolers are taught these subjects already, HSLDA opposes any effort to mandate their teaching, especially with textbooks prescribed by the state.

Status:
1/8/2009(Senate) Referred To Education
2/3/2009(Senate) Died In Committee

Action Requested:
None at this time.

HSLDA’s Position:
This bill should be opposed.BR>
