House Bill 900: Amending the Compulsory Attendance Statute

Summary:
This bill would have deleted the provision in the compulsory attendance law permitting a parent from withdrawing a five-year-old child from a public school kindergarten program on a one-time basis. This bill would have further eroded the right of parents to determine when a child is ready for formal education.
