Senate Bill 2516: Change in Compulsory Attendance Requirement

Senator Gray Tollison (District 9)

Summary:
This bill is the same as HB 482 and HB 596 which would have taken away from parents the right to decide when a 5-year-old child is ready for school. Current law allows a parent to withdraw a 5-year-old from kindergarten and not be subject to the compulsory attendance law until age 6.
