Senate Bill 2083: Religious Freedom Restoration Act
Sen. Richard White (R-29th District)
This was the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act." It would have prohibited the state from substantially burdening a person's free exercise of religion unless the state demonstrates that there is a compelling governmental interest and that the state action is the least restrictive means of fulfilling that interest.
This bill was introduced and placed in the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 8, 2003. Unfortunately, the bill died in committee on February 4, 2003.
This bill was supported.
