Senate Bill 2083: Religious Freedom Restoration Act

Summary:
This was the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act." It would have prohibited the state from substantially burdening a person's free exercise of religion unless the state demonstrates that there is a compelling governmental interest and that the state action is the least restrictive means of fulfilling that interest.
Status:
This bill was introduced and placed in the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 8, 2003. Unfortunately, the bill died in committee on February 4, 2003.
