House File 1782: State Government Financing Provisions Modified Relating to Taxes

Sponsors:
Representatives Lenczewski and Marquart

Summary:
Among other things, House File 1782 repeals Minnesota’s tax credit and deduction. However, it does add a refundable child credit provision, which would allow families to receive credit against their imposed taxes of up to $200 per child. This would be less beneficial than the current tax credit provision for low income families, but would likely benefit middle income families, depending upon the amount of their educational expenses and the number of children in their families.

H.F. 575 Status:

3/16/2009(House) Introduction and first reading, referred to Taxes Committee

HSLDA’s Position:
Neutral.

Action Requested:
None at this time.
