Senate File 3827: Public Early Childhood Programs for At-Risk Children
Sponsors:
Senators Terri Bonoff, Tarryl Clark, and Geoff Michel
Summary:
Senate File 3827 allows local school districts to establish early childhood programs for at-risk 4-year-olds.
This is a companion to House File 4125.
Status:
| 4/7/2008 | (Senate) Introduction and First Reading | |
| 4/7/2008 | (Senate) Referred to Education Committee |
HSLDA’s Position:
Oppose. Although Senate File 3827 does not require participation in these programs, bills like this are often a state’s first step toward lowering the compulsory school attendance age. HSLDA opposes expanding compulsory school attendance ages because doing so infringes upon parents’ freedom to make educational decisions for their children.
Action Requested:
None.
