House File 4125: Public Early Childhood Programs for At-Risk Children

Sponsors:
Representatives Nora Slawik and Diane Loeffler

Summary:
House File 4125 allows local school districts to establish early childhood programs for at-risk 4-year-olds.

This is a companion to Senate File 3827.

Status:
3/27/2008(House) Introduced and Referred to E-12 Education Committee

HSLDA’s Position:
Oppose. Although House File 4125 does not require participation in these programs, bills like this are often a state’s first step toward lowering the compulsory school attendance age. HSLDA opposes expanding compulsory school attendance ages because doing so infringes upon parents’ freedom to make educational decisions for their children.

Action Requested:
None.
