Senate Bill 764: Study of Special Education Needs for Nonpublic Schools

Sponsor:
Kelley, Gaither

Summary:
This bill would provide for a study which would investigate how well special needs children in nonpublic schools are being served, and if services are being provided in the least restrictive manner possible.

Status:
02/07/2005(S) Introduction and first reading, referred to Education
03/21/2005(S) Committee report: to pass and re-referred to State and Local Government Operations
04/07/2005(S) Committee report: to pass
04/07/2005(S) Second reading

Action Requested:
None at this time.

HSLDA's Position:
Cautious support. Current law leaves the provision of special education services up to the local school district, which has resulted in an unpredictable patchwork of services to homeschool families. This bill would begin to study this problem.
