Senate File 642: National Children's Alliance Bill

Sponsor:
Senator Richard Cohen (DFL), District 64.

Summary:
This bill seeks to establish "child advocacy centers" which must by law be members of the "National Children's Alliance."

Status:
03/03/2003 Introduced.
03/03/2003 To Senate Committee on Finance.
05/19/2003 The 2003 regular session of the Minnesota Legislature adjourned on May 19, 2003. Thankfully, SF 642 is now dead.

Action Requested:
None.

HSLDA's Position:
Oppose. While there may have been some good ideas in SF 642, this bill is an effort to use Minnesota law to promote the interests of a national child advocacy organization, the National Children's Alliance. Minnesota should write its own laws on reforming the child abuse system, not implement the policies of nationwide child advocacy groups.
