Senate Bill 343: Truancy Penalty Increase

Senator Richard T. Moore (D)

Summary:
Currently, a parent may be fined no more than 20 dollars if his or her child misses seven full or 14 half days of school within six months. Senate Bill 343 would increase the maximum penalty to 50 dollars and a day of community service for each additional day the student is absent.
