House Bill 261: Equal Access for Students in Home Study Programs

Summary:
House Bill 261 would allow children in home study programs to participate in public school extracurricular activities at their local public school.

March 31, 2003: Read by title, under the rules, referred to the Committee on Education.
May 8, 2003: Reported favorably (7-5).
May 12, 2003: Read by title, ordered engrossed, passed to 3rd reading -regular calendar.
May 13, 2003: Read third time by title, amended, roll called on final passage, yeas 42, nays 57. Failed to pass.
June 23, 2003: The 2003 Regular Session of the legislature adjourned, so HB 261 is dead.

Action Requested:
None.

HSLDA's Position:
Neutral. This bill did not appear to endanger homeschool liberties in any way. HSLDA takes no position on bills providing public benefits to homeschooled students.
