Kentucky House Bill 474: Raising Compulsory Attendance

Author:
Representative Rick Nelson

Summary:
This bill would raise the compulsory attendance age in Kentucky to 18 by 2007.

Status:

02/09/2004(H) INTRODUCED IN HOUSE
02/10/2004(H) TO EDUCATION (H)
03/08/2004(H) WITHDRAWN

Action Requested:
After hearing from homeschool families the detrimental affects this bill would have, Representative Nelson has withdrawn this bill. It is no longer up for consideration. Thanks for your quick and decisive action!

HSLDA's Position:
Opposed. This bill is bad for homeschoolers because it takes away two years of freedom. It is bad for students who want to learn because it forces disruptive students to attend class against their will. It is bad for taxpayers because it increases school budgets.
