Senate Concurrent Resolution 112: A Resolution to Identify Unschoolers

Sponsor:
Senate Affairs Committee

Summary:
This bill directs the legislature to establish a study committee to research issues and problems regarding Idaho's unschooled children. It requires the study group to make policy recommendations to the full legislature in 2004.

Status:
03/04/2003 Senate--Introduced
03/06/2003 Assigned to Senate Education

Action Requested:
No action is requested at this time.

HSLDA's Position:
HSLDA opposes this bill.

Background:
We believe this bill is a backdoor approach to tracking homeschoolers. Since homeschoolers do not need to register at this time, homeschoolers are often considered "unschooled."

If the legislature wants to "study" public school dropouts, they should reset their focus and use those terms. Using the term "unschooled" is undefined in statute and is a term that often refers to "homeschoolers."
