House Bill 5081: Would Require Clergymen to Report Abuse or Neglect

Summary:
This bill would have protected the identity of a clergyman who reported suspected child abuse or neglect based on a confidential communication to the clergyman from another person. This would constitute a breach of confidentiality and would have discouraged persons from seeking spiritual help.

Status:
This bill was introduced and referred to the Joint Committee on Children on January 13, 2003. On February 5, 2003, the bill was sent to the Judiciary Committee in both the House and Senate. This bill has died since the Connecticut General Assembly Adjourned on June 4, 2003.

HSLDA's Position:
This bill was opposed.
