Senate Bill 1421: High school diploma: parental skills course

Author:
Senator John Vasconcellos

Summary:
SB 1421 mandates parenting education in public schools. SB 1421 dangerously sets the stage for teaching the future decision-makers in our country, state, and communities very bad ideas about marriage, family, and parenting. Such teaching would likely include denouncing Biblically-based parenting practices (e.g. spanking, teaching absolutes, submission to parental authority, etc.) claiming such practices are wrong; and also include promoting same-sex marriages and other types of ungodly relationships and behaviors. Government-controlled parenting education is a means of training parents to be junior partners under the direction of the "government-as-parent." Requirement government-controlled parenting classes could easily be a step toward the licensing of individuals to be parents based on their successful completion of politically-correct and state-approved courses in parenting. This has been publicly advocated.
