House Joint Resolution 9: A Constitutional Amendment Regarding Marriage

Representatives John Coghill Jr., John Harris, Vic Kohring, Peggy Wilson, Bob Lynn, Carl Gatto, Nancy Dahlstrom, Mike Kelly, Mark Neuman, Bill Thomas Jr., and Bill Stoltze.

Summary:
This was a proposed amendment to the Alaska Constitution which would have prohibited the recognition of any union except marriage between a man and woman.

3/27/2007 State Affairs Committee Report: Do Pass and referred to Judiciary Committee
4/17/2007 Judiciary Committee Hearing
4/18/2007 Judiciary Committee Report: Do pass as amended
5/7/2007 Second reading, Judiciary Committee substitute adopted by unanimous consent, third reading and failed to pass. Request for Reconsideration by Representative Coghill
5/8/2007 Returned to the Rules Committee, which declined to reconsider
4/13/2008 Bill died when the regulation Legislative Session ended
