Texas v. McAuliffe family
Homeschool Truancy Charge Continued Over Missing Textbooks

Filed: January, 2006

Nature of Case: Anderson-Shiro Consolidated Independent School District charged the McAuliffe family with truancy after they started homeschooling. The judge said he would dismiss the case if the family would give the school a formal letter of withdrawal. Mr. McAuliffe went to sign the withdrawal, but the school refused to accept it because they were missing some textbooks that they believed the family had. Home School Legal Defense Association local counsel Tom Sanders negotiated with the school and the school district finally agreed to dismiss all charges of truancy.

Status: Dismissed
