HSLDA is pleased to announce the results of its annual Poetry Contest. This year, homeschool students were invited to explore the special relationship between poetry and music through Saint-Saen’s humorous musical suite of fourteen movements, Carnival of the Animals, as well as other favorite classics.  It was wild and wonderful to read where these creative musical pieces took their imaginations!

Students submitted poems based on the following musical selections:

Category 1: Homeschool students ages 7-10

Category 2: Homeschool students ages 11-14

  • Fossils” movement from Carnival of the Animals
  • Aviary” movement from Carnival of the Animals
  • Rodeo by Aaron Copland

Category 3: Homeschool students ages 15-19

Winners received cash prizes as high as $200, and all contest profits went to the Special Needs Children’s Fund administered by HSLDA’s charitable arm, the Home School Foundation.
